About Art Deco
The Art Deco movement evolved during a period of restlessness; it was a time of transition
and of hope between two World Wars. Borrowing first from the Persian, Russian and Oriental
schools, later from the Egyptian, American Indian and Aztec arts, Deco comprised a
thousand faces using varied materials, mediums and applications.
Sweeping throughout Europe and America, Deco invaded every vestige of life and behavior.
From architecture to household accessories - on the
street, in the factory, the theater, dress at home - all moved in the swing and sway of
Art Deco.
I recall vividly the movement of the Deco years. They were years masked in the
innocence of an unsophisticated generation, a generation in revolt against man's excessive
rationality. Romanticized by the Deco movement the 'twenties' and 'thirties' will ever be
remembered for a period that introduced illusion and spirit into modernism, opening new
vistas in the evolution of art. --Kaitz ---
